PROSTITUCIÓN ON LINE, VIRTUAL, 2.0 - ONLINE OR VIRTUAL PROSTITUTION 2.0

Sexual exploitation in the web 2.0

The first period of the web is characterized by being unidirectional and made with immobile content. It’s the stage that takes place in a static environment in which the user is a passive subject, a simple spectator and recipient of the content, receives information or published it, but without the possibility of interaction, no modifications are made or enrichment of content nor information exchange. It is not updated and is known as the web 1.0 environment.

As new tools and applications emerge and are developed in which the user ceases to be a passive receiver or consumer to become an active, dynamic generator, which to the extent that it creates, communicates, informs, shares, interacts, participates and collaborate as well as contributes to the generation and facilitation of knowledge and content, forms partnerships and participates in virtual communities locally and globally. It is the era of blogs, social networks and other tools that initiated the so-called web 2.0 or social network to differentiate it from the first era.

Web 2.0, more than a technology, is an attitude of the users, producers and consumers towards the information that circulates on the web in a way that makes it a meeting point for all citizens of the world. Some of the 2.0 tools and applications are: the social networks(1), wikis(2), blogs(3), YouTube(4), online sale pages(5), podcasts(6), content managers, online presentations, video hosting sites, comments, conceptual maps(7) , messaging systems like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

With relative frequency, the mode of mentioning and specifying the level of advancement and technological development of some activities uses the nomenclature 2.0, that is why we can speak of prostitution 2.0 and of pimping 2.0(8) with propriety. Prostitution 2.0 is what is taking place from the entire web 2.0 network. It is the emergence of prostitution in the Internet with new technologies of information and communication, determining profound changes in forms, ways, means, places. It is not only about the use of smart phones but it covers a broader spectrum in which the client plays an active role because technology allows great interactivity between users. Pimping 2.0, like prostitution 2.0, uses the web 2.0 framework to induce women into prostitution; contact clients, pornographers, intermediaries and other agents involved in virtual or online prostitution through social networks.

In a market predominantly of men for men, who are the producers and consumers, the large-scale product is feminine, women are dehumanized / objectified; her body is bought, rented, exchanged, treated as an instrument or object of commerce, as a sexual tool, and this is called rape because a human being is used as a sexual object.

The woman in a situation of prostitution 2.0 is different from the conventional, typical or “standard” prostituted woman and the difference has to do with classism. The first goes through the filter of cyberspace marketing, the second by the world of poverty wherein the body is the billboard. The former is normally young and attractive, the latter cannot afford physical transformation. The first is contacted through an internet platform, the easiest and most comfortable place to find clients or for them to find her while the second is in the street, highway, or the most suitable public space to attract clients. The first is refined, sometimes with academic training, the second comes from precariousness, ignorance, have the need for survival and are from the most vulnerable neighborhoods. The first gives the feeling of having more freedom when accepting or rejecting a prostitute, the second accepts every man who comes looking for sex. The first enjoys a certain esteem as a “model”, the second supports the social stigma of which the clients, pimps and mafias who exploit them are free.
